JAMMU, April 27
Visually challenged climbers of J&K, who brought laurels to the state by winning five medals including two gold, silver and two bronze in the 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Championship for visually challenged, were felicitated by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) in a function held at Louise Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls, here today.
Prominent among those present included Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary and joint secretary MAJK respectively; Principal, RD Dubey and Nevedita Shukla and Anju Sharma of Louis Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls and Superintendent of Residential School for Blind, Khalida Begum.
Important to mention here that 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Championship for visually challenged was almost completely dominated by J&K climbers who made a clean in the girls category and the boys lost just a silver medal to a climber from Haryana.
Whereas in the girls category, Bhumika Chib, Riya Devi and Chandrika Jyoti bagged the first three positions and cash prizes of Rs 3000, Rs2000 and Rs1000 respectively while in boys section, Mohd Azim Khan and Waseem Akram clinched the gold and bronze medal with cash prizes of Rs 3000 and Rs1000 respectively.
The championship was organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee, New Delhi in the IMF premises.
