Mela site declared Polythene Free Zone: ADC

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Avny Lavasa inaugurated the 3-day Historic Devika Baisakhi Mela at Devika Ghat, this morning. Greeting the people on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, the ADC said that these festivals reflect the rich culture of our country and help in strengthening the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood. Ms Lavasa appealed the people to maintain cleanliness on the banks of Holy Devika. ‘This year the historic Mela is being celebrated under the theme Swachh Bharat Mission and the mela site has also been declared as Polythene Free Zone’, she informed. ADC took stock of arrangements put in place by district administration for the convenience of the people and also inspected different stalls put up by Horticulture, Agriculture, Handloom, Handicrafts, Animal Husbandry, Tourism Department.
A large number of people thronged the mela and visited various stalls. Cultural Programmes highlighting ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and reflecting the rich Dogra Culture were also organized by Information Department, Field Publicity Unit Udhampur, Song and Drama Division, GoI, NYK Udhampur and Youth Services and sports department.
