Mendhar, April 23
A Kabaddi tournament has been organised from April 22 to 25, 2017 at the OP Hill Stadium, Mendhar by the Army as a run up to the Mendhar Shaheedi Diwas which is celebrated every year in April. The tournament is to reach out to the youth of Mendhar and to commemorate the martyrdom of the brave citizens of Mendhar Tehsil, who laid down their lives supporting the Army during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The tournament got underway in the presence of Army officials, SDPO Mendhar, civil dignitaries, school children and a large number of local youths. The event has received an overwhelming response from the youth of Mendhar and adjoining areas, with a total of 8 teams comprising 80 players participating in the event. The tournament will be played on a knock out basis culminating with the final on April 25, 2017, coinciding with a Know Your Army Mela, at the OP Hill Stadium.
The event has provided a platform to the local youth to show case their skills in front of their home crowd. Earlier in the inaugural match, Amir Club, Dakhi beat Friends Club, Harni (61-29).
The players of both team showed extraordinary skills in a well fought game, however Amir Club, Dakhi held their nerves and emerged winners.
