Environment Unit of MIER College of Education organized an environment awareness campaign under the Project NEAC (National Environment Awareness Campaign 2016-17) and in accordance with the theme of the year ‘Swatch Bharat Mission.” In this campaign 50 students from different departments of the college participated enthusiastically. Dr. N.R. Sharma Dean Academics MIER along with HODs of B.Ed, B.Ed Special and faculty of the college initiated the program.
Five activities were conducted with the aim to create awareness regarding solid waste management and water conservation. Dr. N.R Sharma, Dean Academics, oriented the students about the benefits of the vermicomposting. Students of Environment Education of the College witnessed the composting site where biodegradable waste of the institution is dumped.
This compost shall be used as a fertilizer in the campus garden.
The main focus of the unit was to spread awareness regarding natural compost as a replacement for chemical fertilizers which is harmful for soil, microorganisms and human beings.
Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HOD B. Ed. Special Education provided awareness to students regarding different practices to save water followed by one such practice to increase the level of the ground water at the campus.
A pit was dug in the garden by the students to collect the waste water from the school. Stones were used in the pit to filter waste products and also to prevent water from evaporation.
