Jammu Tawi, April 18
A workshop on the topic “Mental Health and De-addiction Issues among Vulnerable Groups of Population” was organized by MIER College. The resource person was Dr. Gurmeet Kour, Head, Drug De-addiction and Mental Health Centre, Police Headquarters Jammu, J&K. Dr. Renu Gupta, principal MIER College presided over the function. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director MIER along with Dean Academics, HODs of different Departments of the College also graced the occasion besides the faculty and students. Dr Renu Gupta extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced her as an expert in the field of mental health and de-addiction and working for the rehabilitation of drug addicts in the J&K state. She further added that Dr. Kour is a renowned psychiatrist having extensively worked in the field and has treated many cases. In her presentation, Dr. Kour emphasized on stress in daily life as well as at workplace and highlighted its various types. She educated the audience about the causes of stress. She administered two questionnaires to measure the stress and happiness quotient of the audience along with her team of clinical psychologists and support staff and also shared the results of the tests with the audience. Dr. Kour demonstrated relaxation techniques to manage stress like: deep breathing, meditation, assertive training etc. She also talked about another burning issue in the society namely consumptions of drugs by youth and other vulnerable sections. The program was conducted by Divya Jyot Oberio, a B.Ed Student. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Annie Koul, HOD B.Ed Department.
