Lack of facilities leaving patients to suffer
Jammu Tawi, April 29: The tall claims of the PDP-BJP Coalition government of providing adequate health facilities falsified as the hospitals lack the required facilities due to misappropriation of funds leaving the patients to suffer.
Instead of purchasing the required infrastructure, the state exchequer is being plundered by the concerned officials, sources said. The misappropriation of funds came to light after a major scam related to purchase of dental chairs, X-Rays, dental units and other equipments was detected. The purchase was made without following codal procedure.
Following the complaint lodged by MLC Ramesh Arora, the State Vigilance Organisation carried out a surprise check at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and found old model dental chairs, X-Ray packed in stores for the past over two years.
The wastage of state exchequer by way of purchasing new equipments but old models and not using them, purchase of Dental chairs, X-Rays, Dental units and other equipments etc without following due procedure, deduction of VAT twice by the J&K Medical Supplies Co-operation.
During the course of investigation, some of the allegations were found substantiated for which necessary recommendations would be made to government for further course of action, the sources added.
Even the old models were purchased which indicates that the purchase orders were issued only to utilize government funds and favour the blue eyed companies and their dealers.
These dental chairs, X-Rays, dental units and other equipments were purchased without any codal procedure.
During the course of surprise checks some of the allegations were found substantiated for which necessary recommendations were made to the Government for further course of action.
In another surprise check, the SVO sleuths noticed that substandard medicines have been purchased on exorbitant rates during the year 2015-16.
