Srinagar: Supporters of independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid were on Friday detained as he led a march towards the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to protest against the alleged “sabotaging” of the bill against beef ban.
However, Rashid, who represents North Kashmir Langate constituency in Assembly, managed to reach the gate of the civil secretariat along with a few of his supporters.
But they were not allowed inside by the security staff.
The controversial anti-beef ban bill, which has put the PDP-BJP coalition government in a spot, could not be taken up in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly yesterday despite being listed for discussion.
Three private member’s bills, seeking amendment to the Ranbir Penal Code that would decriminalise beef slaughter in the state, were listed in the business at serial number 10, 11 and 12. The bills were by three MLAs from National Conference, CPI(M) MLA MY Tarigami and MLA Rashid.
