Mortal remains of soldier killed by terrorists near LoC reach village in Uttarakhand

The mortal remains of Indian Army soldier Sandeep Singh Rawat will reach his home in Gorpala Talla village in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand on Saturday. Rawat was killed and his body mutilated by terrorists near the Line of Control in Machhil sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. The Army said the terrorists mutilated the soldier’s body before fleeing into Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir supported by covering fire from Pakistan Army posts. The Army has warned of an ‘appropriate response’ to the terrorist act.

As per schedule, Rawat’s mortal remains were taken from New Delhi to Dehradun by air. The flight carrying Rawat’s body left from New Delhiat 8:00 am and reached Dehradun at 8:45 am.

Wreath laying ceremony was organised for him at the Dehradun airport from where the body was taken to his native place by road. Rawat’s mortal remains reached his village at around 10:10 am where his last rites will be performed.

Tension between Indian and Pakistani forces have escalated along the LoC and international border since Indian Army carried out surgical strikes to eliminate terror launch pads operating from within the PoK.
