The activists of Naari Shakti Jagriti Manch raising alarm of intensifying struggle staged protest demonstration at Mukherjee Chowk under the leadership of District President Sushma Mahajan, on Saturday. The protesters raised slogans against the Department of Social Welfare and local representatives for not giving hearing to long pending demands.
While addressing, Sushma Mahajan giving reference of people’s grievances, said that dozens of people had filed their applications in Social Welfare department to get the benefit of old age, handicap and widow pension schemes.
“Years have passed and few of the applicants left this world in wait of pension”, she added.
She said that not only this, nevertheless the government uses to pay very merger amount to pension holders for which their organization is struggling from years. She said that it is not possible to survive at pension amount of Rupees 200 or Rupees 400. “The government needs to enhance APL pension from Rupees 200 to Rupees 1500 and Rupees 2000 for BPL”, she advocated.
She welcoming the decision of court of enhancing the pensions of handicap persons to Rupees 1000, requested to interfere in the matter of Old age and Widow Pension also.
She also castigated local representatives for making fool of public. She said that before elections every leader boasts of making the demands fulfilled however, after elections no one, even the elected representative comes forward. She appealing local MLA as well Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to fulfill the demands of public warned of intensifying the struggle if they fail to mitigate their demands.
