The last Sunday of the year 2016 witnessed a scintillating performance of a new play in Hindi, ‘Dahej Ban Gayi Musibat’ at Natrang’s Sunday Theatre series. The play has been written by Mohan Singh Parihar and directed by Neeraj Kant. Greeting people on Christmas and speaking at the occasion, Mr. Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang informed that Natrang’s Sunday Theatre which was started in the year 2004 has completed 12 consistent years in which more than 600 shows of the plays of different genres, languages, regions and directors have been featured for Jammu audience and this consistent quality work will be further enhanced in the coming year as the very first day of the year 2017 will witness another performance by Natrang. In a highly entertaining manner, today’s play spoke about the curse of dowry prevalent in our society. The playwright in a very interesting manner creates a comic situation exposing a lusty husband who comes to his in laws place to collect the next instalment of dowry. The play opens in a room where two people (brother and brother-in-law) are undergoing a heated exchange as son-in-law of the family is seen insisting to arrange the dowry material. Unable to meet the demands, the brother-in-law, in a very intelligent manner creates situations where the dowry aspirant (Jijaji) is shown being taught the lesson for his unlawful demands. In the first situation, the brother-in-law leaves the place with a plea to arrange dowry goods, leaving Jijaji alone at home. Finding him alone at home, this follows the series of thrashing of Jijaji cleverly planted by brother-in-law.
