NC OBC Cell stages protest against lack of civic amenities, scarcity of ration

The OBC Cell of National Conference (NC) staged a massive dharna in Preet Nagar Sanjay Nagar here against lack of civic amenities and hardships being faced by the people in the wake of the implementation of ill-conceived National Food Security Act and scarcity of rations at CAPD sale outlets.
Led by Co-Chairperson of the Cell Abdul Gani Teli, the protestors, carrying placards, castigated PDP-BJP coalition for misgovernance and failure on all fronts. “Scarcity of rations and poor hygienic conditions are the off-shoot of administrative failure due to lack of political direction”, Teli said and blamed the Jammu Municipal Corporation for poor sanitation, choking drains and faulty street lights. He said that heaps of garbage and choking drains have potential to spread epidemic during these summer months, as these have become breeding sites for stray animal and dogs. He said the poor hygienic conditions are a grave threat to public health and it seems that the coalition government has abdicated its responsibility on this front.
Teli sought immediate drive for repairing and renovating choked drains and carrying out cleanliness of the ward, lest the people will be forced to take to streets. He also demanded immediate replacement of faulty street lights as the area remains drenched in darkness, causing enormous problems to pedestrians.
The Co-Chairperson of the OBC Cell also referred to NFSA and said that instead of providing any relief it has deprived major chunk of rationees of much needed food support. He said mess created in the ration cards and scarcity of food grains at sale outlets are added irritants to the people. He sought immediate rollback of NFSA and demanded provision of rations to the rationees as per old scale.
The other speakers also lamented over the lack of will of the present coalition to govern and serving the people. They sought immediate withdrawal of the NFSA for larger interest of the poor people.
