National Conference District Unit Ramban on Tuesday staged a massive dharana against implementation of National Food Security Act in Jammu and Kashmir, describing it anti-people, especially anti-poor.
“The unpopular Act is the major gift of failed PDP-BJP dispensation which it offered to the people at the fag end of first spell of its nightmarish governance,” District President Sajjad Shaheen said while addressing the protesters at Ramsu this afternoon. He said the people of the Banihal Assembly Constituency refused the rations at the CAPD sale-outlets to demonstrate their resentment against the NFSA, which has deprived huge chunk of population of much needed rations. “The people will not stop their fight against the government until this Act is rolled back”, he said while spelling out the gray features of this measure that have put the rationees in immense hardships.
Shaheen described the PDP-BJP government as darkest chapter of Jammu and Kashmir history, saying the two parties were working at cross purposes. As the duo lacks vision and grit to govern, the development has got pushed in the back burner, he said adding that even the works taken up during the National Conference led government have either been stopped or were being pursued in a lackadaisical manner. The District President castigated the government for failures on all fronts and said administrative inertia has paralysed governance at all levels. “Though three months of Governor’s Rule provided some respite to the people yet the state is now again exposed to mis-governance”, he added. Senior district functionaries of the party also addressed the protesters and sought immediate rollback of NFSA.
