Scores of leaders of youth wing of National Conference were detained on Wednesday during an anti-government demonstration in Srinagar.

The youth wing of the National Conference held a massive anti-government march against the killing of one of its youth leaders in Rajouri and also demanded revocation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), which has led to massive protests across Kashmir valley during past week.
Hundreds of protestors, led by the party’s youth president Salman Sagar started a march from Nawa-e-Subh Complex – NC headquarter – here.
Holding banners and placards with anti-government slogans written on them, the protesters marched from the party headquarters at Nawa-e-Subh complex towards the busy Lal Chowk.
However, a police party intercepted them near Kothibagh police station and detained several leaders including President of the youth wing Salman Sagar, Provincial President Mudasir Shahmiri, Imran Nabi, vice president of the youth wing and Ahsan Pardesi, NC youth Vice president for Kashmir division.
The protesters also burned an effigy of CM Mufti as a mark of resentment and protest.
They demanded judicial probe into the disappearance of three Kupwara men and a scheduled power supply to the valley during winter.
Earlier, taking to media persons, Salman Sagar said that PDP-BJP government has failed on every front. “NFSA has added miseries to the people. People are dying of hunger and government is hell bent upon to do it (go ahead with the implementation of the Act),” he said.
He added that Mufti-led government is even paying no need to public woes. “Thousands of people across the Valley have protested against the (NFSA) Act. The government has no concern even for those who are dying of hunger,” he said.
He said that reassurances from the government that National Food Security Act (NFSA) is “for the benefit of public at large” have no takers as people in Srinagar and other districts continued protests against the controversial law and are demanding its immediate revocation.
