‘Neighbourly engagement’: Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi meets PM Modi

Wang met Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday to review the logistics and security arrangements for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposed visit in October to the coastal state for the BRICS summit. He is on a three-day visitto India.
Ahead of his visit, China’s state-run media said the door for India’s admission into the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group was “not tightly” closed.A China-led opposition earlier this year India’s entry to the NSG, which aims to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Beijing’s contention was that India was not a signatory of a key nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
But stressing that India and China are partners not rivals, a commentary by state-run Xinhua news agency said on Friday that “as Beijing and New Delhi head into a season of intensive top-level diplomatic encounters that could well define the future of their partnership, the two need to work together to keep their disagreements in check”.
