Night temp further improves in Kashmir, mercury dips in Ladakh

The mercury witnessed considerable dip in Ladakh region though the night temperature has further improved in Kashmir valley, where majority of the places witnessed above normal temperature.
A Met department spokesperson here today said light rain and snow would occur at higher reaches in the state during the next 48 hours.
There was a considerable dip in night temperature in the border town of Kargil, which was the coldest place in the region. Against minus 4.1 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature in Kargil was minus 9.9 degrees. The minimum night temperature recorded in Kargil was on December 21, when mercury dipped and settled at minus 11.4 degrees.
Leh in Ladakh region also witnessed considerable dip in the night temperature as mercury plunged and settled at minus 8.9 degree, against minus 1.5 degree recorded yesterday. The coldest night recorded in Leh was on December 21 after mercury dipped and settled at minus 14.9 degree.
Meanwhile, even though sun was playing hide and seek, people woke up to yet another chilly morning due to ice cold winds in the summer capital, Srinagar, which witnessed improvement in the night temperature. Against minus 4.4 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature was minus 2.2
degrees. The day temperature recorded was one degree below normal.
The coldest night temperature recorded in the summer capital was on December 20, when mercury was minus 6.5 degrees.
However, world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was the coldest place in Kashmir valley as night temperature witnessed a considerable dip though it was still above normal. Against minus 2 degrees recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 4.6 degrees there, where famed ski slopes are yet to receive major snowfall.
There was some improvement in the night temperature in world famous health resort of Pahalgam, where mercury surged at settled at minus 2.9 degrees, against 4.6 degrees recorded yesterday. The night temperature was about 1 degree above normal.
The night temperature in Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley, also witnessed some improvement due to cloudy skies. Against 4 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature was 0.3 degrees, which is around 2 notches above normal.
Kupwara in north Kashmir and another health resort of Kokernag also witnessed improvement in night temperature. Against minus 4.8 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature was minus 4.5 degrees in Kupwara, while the mercury settled at minus 1.2 degrees, against 4.8 degrees in Kokernag.
