April 7:While as various social, political and non political organisations, besides student bodies unitedly called for Jammu Bandh in support of NIT students, major organisations…Chambers and Transporters preferred to stay away.
Expressing solidarity with the non-local students of the NIT, who had been thrashed by the Police, Bandh call was given and equally supported by various organisations including Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), Jammu Province Peoples Forum (JPPF), Shiv Shakti Sena (SSS), Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena Bala Sahib Thackery, Team Jammu, Shri Ram Sena (SRS), Shiv Sena Hindustan (SSH), and National Panthers Student Union (NPSU).
Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce Jammu (CCIJ) and All J&K Transporters welfare Association (AJKTWA) did not support the bandh call. However, both these organizations have appealed the newly formed Chief Minister to immediately intervene into the matter as the situation may go out of hand if the culprits are not booked and action taken.
It is pertinent to mention here that at NIT Srinagar several non-local students were injured, when allegedly cane charged by the Jammu and Kashmir Police yesterday when they were protesting with Tricolour amidst pro-India slogans.
While Shri Ram Sena (SRS) Jammu and Kashmir has demanded dismissal of police personnel indulging in Lathi-charge on non-local students in NIT.
“We have called a Bandh over the NIT incident which is a shameful act of some anti national elements,” said Rajiv Mahajan state president SRS Jammu.
Mahajan said that all those who raised Pro Azadi slogans, celebrated the defeat of India in Semi-finals of world cup, pelted stones on those raising pro-India slogans besides indulging in India bashing were required to be booked for sedition.
Shiv Sena Bala Sahib Thackery (SSBST) also condemned the incident and lambasted upon NDA government for not giving proper security cover to non local students studying at NIT Srinagar.
“The fault on the part of the students was only that they were peacefully protest with holding Tricolours amidst pro-India slogans demanded protection after the clash erupting during the WT20 semifinal match between India and West Indies,” he said and demanded judicial probe in the entire incident and strict action against the anti-national elements.
Dimpy Kohli state president SSBT uttered that life of students belonging to other states is under threat and Modi led NDA government is sitting like a mute spectator to all the happenings in NIT Srinagar. He said those who are saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai are beaten mercilessly and on the other hand BJP made an alliance with those who are faithful of Afzal Guru.
He said Shiv Sena will not tolerate any discrimination with students and gives calls for complete peaceful Jammu Bandh on April 7. He also made a strong appeal to all traders and other organizations to observe bandh on April 7 in support of NIT students.
