NMC urges PM to declare ‘May Day’ as gazetted holiday

National Mazdoor Conference (NMC), president Subash Shastri today urged upon Prime Minister’s to declare ‘May Day’ as a gazette holiday throughout the country under Negotiable Instrument Act as a befitting tribute to May Day martyrs and recognizing the valuable contribution of the working class in the all-round development of the country.
In a memorandum sent to Narendra Modi, Shastri said that because of the May Day martyrs, the working class got their rights throughout the world and India being the largest and most vibrant democracy across the globe and frontline welfare State should also declare May 1 as gazette holiday. He said that this will be a great gesture and will fulfill the most genuine and long-pending demands of the working class. He said that the then government led by V P Singh had declared May Day as a gazette holiday in the country in 1990, why it has not been done their after.
Shastri hoped that the NDA government at the centre will concede the long pending demand of working class and declare May Day ay as a National Holiday. Shastri also appealed to Modi to direct the vice chairman of Niti Ayog, Arvind Panigraian to earmarked Rs 9,000 crore as special fund at State Government disposal to ward off likely effect implementation of recommendations of Seventh Pay Commission arrears along with incorporating financial implications of regularization of 61,000 daily rated workers.
