A 28-year-old woman in Bhaderwah town of Doda district surprised her family and in-laws with an unusual pre-wedding condition planting saplings instead of gold ornaments or cash. The green demand made by Dazy Sheikh a graduate and resident of Sartingal village in Bhaderwah was quickly accepted by the groom, Yasir Hussain Sheikh of Halyia Mohalla of Bhaderwah, and the couple got married.
“I have been planting saplings from the age of school. When my marriage was fixed on Earth week, I was very happy environment reminded me of my emotional bonding with it,” Dazy Sheikh told this media person.
“I am happy after knowing that she is more concerned about environment than her own wealth,” said Yasir Hussain Sheikh who is principal in Bhaderwah Valley Public School.
Dazy Sheikh made the request one month back , when her sister-in-law sought to know her preferences in ornaments and clothes part of a ritual in the region, where bride are asked for their choice in gifts. Dazy said she wanted saplings to be planted at her paternal house and the rest at her in-laws’ place.
The newly-wed couple today contacted DFO Bhaderwah, Viveak Verama and Range Officer Neeru Sagar Hussain Jamwal who had already launched plantation drive at TRC Sungli, Bhaderwah and planted three trees there.
“We planted two saplings of Deodar as it is considered pious by nature and we are great full DFO Bhaderwah Viveak Verma who invited us for plantation and we will plant saplings on our every wedding anniversary,” said the couple.
