A war of words ensued between Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday on Twitter over the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) centre in Jammu. Abdullah on Thursday accused the BJP-PDP of playing partisan politics over the setting up of higher education institutes in the state. Javadekar today hit back saying the former CM should not politicise education.
“Better not to politicise education @abdullah_omar. You know there will be off campus of #IIM in Kashmir Valley” tweeted Javadekar.
The Union Minister also said the NC leader should have helped in “streamlining PM scholarship which was mismanaged through 2011-2014.” Highlighting Centre’s developmental plans for Kashmir, Javadekar tweeted, “U know @abdullah_omar Centre has sanctioned Rs100cr for NIT Srinagar modernisation. U should help academic session begins sooner there. Centre has granted Rs 50 cr for 7 Girls hostels in J&K of
which 3 will be in the Kashmir Valley. ”
Abdullah however was quick to respond to Javadekar saying none of the replies made by the union minister addressed the “inherent imbalance of the decision regarding IIT and IIM.” He also mocked the HRD Minister’s comments saying that according to him, “the whole country was mismanaged from 1947 to 2014.” The former CM said Javadekar was ‘too senior in age for me’ to argue on the social network.
Abdullah also castigated J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti saying she had ‘sold her soul’ to remain in power. Mehbooba’s PDP and the BJP are alliance partners in the government in the state.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Javadekar said that 13 IIMs had been set up since independence out of which 7 new IIMs were set up in the past two years.
