National Conference and Congress today cornered the state government over the issue of alleged land encroached by Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries-Abdul Ghani Kohli in Poonch and Rajouri, seeking his ouster from the state cabinet.
Soon after the 3rd session was resumed for question hour on Thursday, members of opposition led by Mubarak Gul, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Ghulam Mohammed Saroori stood and demanded sacking of the minister. They accused the minister of allegedly misusing his position to encroach state land in twin border district of Poonch and Rajouri.
“The minister and senior leader of the BJP has misused his position to encroach the state land, while as government is silent on it,” the opposition members asserted in the house. Demanding roll back of SRO 105, they said that the minister be sacked forthwith. Meanwhile, raising papers in his hand, Jora stormed into the well of the house, followed by rest of the members of the opposition, including National Conference and Congress.
Trying to approach Speaker, the opposition leaders were barred by the marshals. In the well, the opposition leaders raised anti-BJP slogans, accusing it of running ideology of ‘Nagpur’ in the state. Responding to the accusations, the government said that the matter is sub-judice and the issue can’t be debated in the house.
“The matter in question is in the court and cannot be discussed in the house,” Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said. Reacting to it, the Opposition members waving a newspaper said that the issue is in public and the minister has violated his public office.
“The DC Jammu should be asked to come up with a report only today,” Jora said. Later, the Opposition members walked out of the house amid slogans. They accused the government of running monopoly and dictatorship in the house. However, treasury benches continued with the question hour.
