Former RJD lawmaker Mohammad Shahabuddin, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case of two brothers, walked out on bail this morning after 11 years in prison.
The RJD strongman and four-term former MP from Siwan was shifted to Bhagalpur Central Jail last month after his prison cell was searched by police in connection with the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.
Patna High Court granted him bail on Wednesday in the much-publicised Rajiv Raushan murder case.
In a chilling incident, two brothers were killed in Siwan in 2004 by bathing them in acid. Their elder brother Rajiv Roshan who was an eyewitness in the case was shot dead in 2015.
“We all know I was framed. But it was Court who jailed me and the court has released me”, Mohammad Shahabuddin said after his release.
Shahabuddin was known for his reign of terror in Bihar before Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar considerably lessened his clout by putting him in jail.
Taking a dig at Bihar chief minister, Shahabuddin said, “Nitish Kumar is circumstantial leader, my leader is Lalu Yadav.”
Amid changing equations after an alliance between Nitish Kumar Janata Dal-United and Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, JD (U) leader KC Tyagi said, “Shahabuddin is the leader of RJD, our alliance partner. I wouldn’t want to
comment on it.”
“Shahabuddin has been released on bail and we mustn’t question the judgement of the courts and judiciary,” he added.
