Against the backdrop of Supreme Court’s direction of banning bars and wine shops along the national highways across the country, Jammu and Kashmir Government has suspended over 100 licenses of liquor bars in hotels and restaurants.
”From Lakhanpur to Kunjwani and towards Srinagar National Highway besides on state highway Jammu-Akhnoor, 112 licenses of liquor bars in hotels and restaurants have been suspended following the directions of the Supreme Court,” an official here today said.
He said that earlier the highway used to run up to Satwari but it has been diverted from Kunjwani towards Srinagar National Highway via Bye Pass.
”As the highway has been diverted from Kunjwani area, the wine shops, bars operational in hotels and restaurants ahead of Kunjwani area are exempted,” said an official.
He further said that teams paid surprise visits in the hotels and restaurants and suspended their licenses while around 100 wine shops have also been shifted from along the national highway to different locations. Official sources further said that exercise was continuing and in the coming days, more licenses of liquor bars in restaurants and hotels all along the national highways would be suspended.
