After a brief lull, Pakistan once again resorted to ceasefire violation at the forward post of Tarkundi area of Balakot sector in Mender tehsil of district Poonch.
Reports said that Pakistani troopers opened unprovoked automatic weapon firing at the Tarkundi post at about 4: 30 pm and later resorted to heavy mortar shelling in the area.
Reports further said that the Pak troopers were targeting the civilian hamlets along the Line of control and the mortar shells were landing in the adjoining villages.
The firing was being retaliated with the same caliber by own troops and no loss of life or property was reported till the last reports came in while the heavy exchange of fire was also going on.
Pertinent to mention here that this is the same place where sepoy Sudess Kumar of 6 Rajputana Riffle attained martyrdom after been hit by a sniper bullet fired by the Pakistani sniper three days ago i.e. on 16th October 2016.
Also it was expected after the sniper incident that Pakistan could resort to unprovoked firing in the area as there was tension right after the incident and also there were some intelligence reports regarding the deployment of sharp shooters on the LoC by Pakistan to target Indian soldiers.
