Pakistani rangers last night resorted to the unprecedented mortar shelling on about 40 Border Out Posts (BOPs) of Border security force (BSF) and civilian hamlets along the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura and Akhnoor sectors, killing two people including a minor and a BSF soldier besides inflicting injuries to 10 others including two Jawans.
The shelling largely affected the live stock also in the border regions as 50 cattle’s were perished and 182 received serious splinter and bullet injuries.
The unprovoked firing was started by Pak rangers first at about 9:45 pm at R S Pura on the BOPs nearer to the Abdullain, Korotana Khurd and Bidhipur villages and later extended it to the 7 BOPs affecting Sayi, Devigarh, Chakroi, Fathepur Camp, Chandu Chak, Chamka, Nekowal, hansu Chak and Chak Bula villages also which continued till 8 am in the morning. The firing caused huge damage to life, property and live stock in the area.
Though, the unprecedented mortar shelling was given a ‘suitable reply’ from the BSF soldiers deployed at the forward posts but unfortunately a BSF Head Constable namely Shushil Kumar resident of Pahova, Haryana received splinter injuries while retaliating but finally succumbed at 1:30 am while undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu. In Arnia sub sector a lady namely Krishana Devi wife of Chain Dass resident of Treva was injured in Pak shelling while in Sayi village one Girdhari Lal (65) son of Dharm Chand was injured in firing. Both were shifted to GMC&H, Jammu where they are undergoing treatment.
Similarly in Akhnoor sector Pak rangers pounded BSF posts and civilian hamlets including Kanachak, Pargwal, Gajansu, Lalyal, Gadkhal and other areas for more than 16 hours since last night which resulted into the death of 6 years old minor and critical splinter injuries to six others. The deceased was identified as Vicky Kumar son of Varinder resident of Araria district of Bihar at present Lalyal, Kanachak who reportedly died after been hit by a shell outside the bunker.
A 2 years old child also got injured in the blast and was identified as Sunil Singh resident of Gadkhal who sustained splinter injuries on his arm.
Here also the firing was retaliated by the BSF with the same caliber which was intermittent till the filling of this news report. In the retaliation two BSF Jawans also got injured and have been identified as ASI R D Puri 33 battalion son of Dukhran Puri resident of Sivan, Bihar, injured at Abdullian and Ayyappa Babu of same battalion BSF and were admitted to GMC&H, Jammu.
