Pakistani troops resume heavy mortar shelling at various places along LoC in Jammu


Jammu, October 28: After a nigh long lull, Pakistani troops resumed heavy mortar shelling at various places along the Line of Control (LoC) in Pallanwala, Sunderwani and Nowshera sectors on Friday morning. Confirming this, a Defence Ministry spokesperson Lt Colonel Manish Mehta, in Jammu said that Pakistani troops were using “small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars”. The Indian Army was “responding appropriately and befittingly”, he added.

Sources said that the shelling was intense causing panic among the people. However, there had been no casualty or damage on the Indian side so far.

Meanwhile, there was peace along the international border in R S Pura and Arnia sectors where Pakistani guns fell silent around 8 pmThursday. Though there has been no mortar shelling or small arms fire since then, people in various villages have moved to safer places following advise by the local administration.

Similarly, after firing 80 mm and 120 mm mortar shells at various places on the Indian side for some hours, the Pakistani guns were silent along the Line of Control in Mendhar and KG sectors since last night. The Indian army had retaliated the Pakistani shelling.
