Party restructuring after oath: PDP

A day after PDP announced restructuring the party and asked its office bearers to resign; changes are expected in the party-fold as PDP president Mehbooba Mufti takes the mantle of state’s chief ministership.

Sources in PDP said that those office bearers who resigned from their posts are likely to be included in the administrative posts like chairman of different boards and in the chief minister’s secretariat after the government formation. PDP general secretaries Nizamudin Bhat, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Ved Mahajan, Mehboob Iqbal and Political Advisor to PDP president Mansoor Hussain resigned on Friday to “pave way for party restructuring”.

The mantle of the party affairs might be passed on to the senior leaders. The move is aimed to strengthen the party fold and expand the workers base at the grassroots, sources said. PDP president, who will take oath as the chief minister of the state on April 4, has been engaged in strengthening the party and she has been holding consultations in with the senior party leaders and MPs, Tariq Hameed Karra and Muzaffar Hussain Baig.

Karra said that the PDP leadership is holding deliberations on strengthening the party and finalizing the council of ministers from the party in the new government. “The party leadership has not decided yet about the role of leaders in the party. As of now, the leadership and the party is busy preparing for oath taking ceremony. Consultations and deliberation have been going on over ministerial portfolios. Nothing about assigning ministerial portfolios has been finalized yet,” Karra said. Karra said that restructuring the party affairs will take place after the oath taking ceremony is completed.
