Amid threat statements to launch agitation by pro-freedom leaders, the government Tuesday ordered modification of Industrial Policy-2016 with the deletion of controversial para 2.11.2 from the said policy.

“In partial modification of Government Order No. 58-IND of 2016 dated 15.03.2016, para 2.11.2 of Industrial Policy-2016 shall be deemed to have been deleted ab-initio and shall be read as; Private promoters only from the State (including local industrial associations) shall be allowed and encouraged to develop private industrial estates/parks on commercial lines on activity-specific cluster basis over an area of at least 5 acres.

In case of IT Parks, the minimum requirement will be 2 acres for housing IT units in flatted accommodation,” said an order issued by the Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce Department this evening. It further said while the Government will go all out to attract investment in Industrial Estates or elsewhere in the state by providing an enabling environment and incentives, it will be ensured that these are governed by and are in compliance of J&K’s existing administrative practice, regulatory norms and the Constitution of J&K.

Earlier demanding immediate scrapping of the alleged ‘anti-Kashmir New Industrial Policy’, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that now with the government’s statement, the cat is out of the bag, and it is clear that all the state governments right from 1947 had only been crying hoarse over the economic and social empowerment of Kashmiris.

Expressing his deep sorrow and shock over the startling revelations of the minister for industries and commerce Chander Prakash Ganga that “545 industrial units have been already established by the non-locals in Jammu & Kashmir”, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani today said that at a time when the entire Kashmiri nation is protesting against the implementation of new industrial policy, this shocking revelation from the government is an open expression of arrogance of power and it has also came to fore that the new anti-people industrial policy which is being discussed on and off assembly already stands implemented and is working on the ground.
