Srinagar, April 24
A ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader was killed by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. Official sources said that unidentified gunmen fired at PDP district president Pulwama, Abdul Gani, at Kakpora in south Kashmir in broad day light when he was on his way to Srinagar. The injured, who had received a bullet in his chest and another in his leg, was immediately taken to a local hospital from where he was referred to SMHS hospital in a critical condition. Gani later succumbed to his injuries at the Srinagar hospital.
Meanwhile, the gunmen managed to escape, they said, adding a massive search operation has been launched to nab the accused.
While, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned the killing of Abdul Gani Dar, a prominent lawyer and social worker of Pulwama district.
In her condolence message, the Chief Minister said Mr Dar was a selfless worker who lived and died for the people of his area. Besides being in legal profession, Mr Dar was also the District President of PDP in Pulwama.
The Chief Minister regretted that such innocent killings remind us of the tragic reality of the vicious cycle of violence which is pushing our society to darkness.
Conveying her sympathies with the family of Mr. Dar, the Chief Minister has directed Police to identify the killers and unearth motives behind his killing.
Meanwhile, National Conference on Monday condemned in the strongest of terms the killing of PDP’s District President Pulwama Mr. Abdul Gani Dar and extended condolences to his family for their inconsolable loss. National Conference State Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu said the party stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and prays for peace to the departed soul.
“We express solidarity with Dar Sahab’s family and express our grief at this tragic incident. May God give the family the strength to bear this loss”, the NC State Spokesperson said.
The NC State Spokesperson said Dar’s killing was yet another reflection of the alarming state of affairs in the State thanks to the PDP-BJP Government which has plunged the State into total chaos, uncertainty and turmoil.
“The PDP-BJP Government and especially Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should acknowledge their shameful role in bringing the State to this situation and take moral responsibility for the continuously deteriorating situation in the State. While Mehbooba Mufti goes around begging from office to office in New Delhi for her Government to be saved, lives are being lost in Kashmir and alienation is at an all time high. She should introspect and resign without any further delay”, the NC Spokesperson said.
