Kathua, April 27
Locals in Govindsar area of district Kathua are up in arms against the pollution caused by the Cement factories located in area and its adjoining as these factories violate pollution control norms.
The protesters said cement factories have ruined everything. They claimed that after the pollution making industries were set up in the area, locals were facing problems of asthma, skin, eye diseases etc. “The whole area remains draped in dust because of these cement factories,” they said.
Protestors expressed their deep concern over increasing air and water pollution in area. “inspite of repeated efforts, the pollution department has turned a deaf ear and voluntarily allowed the pollution emitting units to mushroom and flourish to put the general public in deep trouble”, they said. The members further said that offices of bureaucrats were miles away from industrial area, and so were unaware about the threats being faced by habitants of Govindsar. The lives of people living in these villages have been turned into hell, they said. The protesters demanded that the cement factories should be monitored by the Government and they should be asked to strictly follow pollution control norms.
