Jammu is all set to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is arriving tomorrow to inaugurate the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspecialty Hospital Katra besides addressing the 5th convocation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra.
According to a University Spokesperson, after reaching Katra at around 9:30 am, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and eventually dedicate the 230-beded Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspecialty Hospital, Kakryal, Katra to the general public and after about half an hour, he will reach the varsity to address the convocation. The hospital has been set up by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at a cost of Rs. 300 Crore respectively.
According to the programme schedule, in the beginning Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will address the convocation and at 10:43 am up to 10:47 am, the Chancellor (Governor) of the varsity will address and request the Prime Minister for the address. Between 10:47 am to 11:15 am, the Prime Minister will address the 5th convocation of the varsity and will depart at about 11:25.
As per University communication, the Prime Minister will give the Chancellor’s Gold Medal to five students, Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal to one student, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Medal to four students, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Medal Best Girl student to two student, University Silver Medals to ten students, Certificate of Distinction to twenty students and Infosys Foundation Prize for Excellence to sixteen girl students.
“A total of 837 students have qualified for award of degrees, including 504 for Bachelor’s Degree in different disciplines; 305 for Master’s Degree and 28 for the award of Ph.D. degrees. A total of 22 Medals and 20 Certificates of Distinction are also being awarded at this Convocation”, it reads.
The varsity communication also reads that the Chancellor the varsity (Governor), will confer degrees on students which include Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Management, Mathematics, Physics, Biotechnology, English, Philosophy, Computer Science & Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering; Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering; Master of Business Administration (MBA) & Master of Business Administration in Business Economics; Master of Science (M.Sc) in Mathematics, Physics and Biotechnology; Master of Arts (MA) in English and Philosophy; Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology and Bachelor of Architecture.
After leaving the varsity at around 11:25 am, the Prime Minister will dedicate a magnificent Sports Complex to the public which has been built by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) at a cost of Rs 11 crores.
