Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first public address after the formation of PDP-BJP government in the state struck the right chord when he invoked former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s formula for Jammu and Kashmir solution under the gambit of “Insaaniyat, Kashmiriyat and Jamhooriyat’’ and said his “mantra’’ of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas’’ will add colors to the Vajpayee’s call, whom he described as “widely respected’’ leader in the State.
Modi assured full support of central government to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti led PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir to move ahead on developmental front. The words have sent a right message across the political as well as social circles both in Jammu as well as Kashmir region. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has got what she wanted, the confidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which could be termed as biggest confidence building measure (CBM).
Modi applauded Mehbooba’s enthusiasm and said that she is totally committed to the state with her energetic leadership. He said that Mehbooba talks about the development of Jammu and Kashmir when she meets. This is likely to send the right message to all those who had been asking Mehbooba about what she had got from the centre which prompted her to ally with BJP despite her having publicly denounced her father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s decision to ally.
Modi said that government of India with full force will move forward shoulder to shoulder and step by step with state government for changing the destiny of Jammu and Kashmir and fulfill the aspirations of people of the state. His words that Mehbooba does not talk about weather, but she always talks about the bridge, road and development conveyed the seriousness with which the new Chief Minister is going about her job. This is likely to boost morale of Mehbooba Mufti and give her the much needed breathing space in Kashmir.
The statement has added weight to her statement which she gave prior to government formation in Jammu and Kashmir that when you meet prime minister of the country, you should consider that all your issues have been addressed. The highest authority from the central government has justified her alliance with BJP and not only that but applauded the Chief Minister for being serious towards running the administrative set-up of the state.
She has been assured that funds won’t be a problem. Besides, all steps would be taken to address the issue of alienation of people in Kashmir valley. She has been told that she should not worry about prime minister not being available to her but remain confident that as and when, she requires, government of India would be at her back and call. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should not shift gears and speed-up the developmental scenario of the state.
She has to launch a fierce crusade against corruption. She should force the administrative machinery to work overtime so that projects are completed well on time. From hydroelectric projects to the roads and water supply schemes, works should be prioritized and completed in time-bound manner. Non-seriousness should not be tolerated. Delay in completing various developmental works should not be taken lightly. Accountability should be fixed. That is the way PDP-BJP government should move ahead.
