The first instalment of Rs 1,200 crore out of Rs 80,000-crore Prime Minister Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) will be released by this month-end.This amount would be released by the Union Finance Ministry by or before December 31, according to official sources.
Sources said other instalments would follow in quick succession after the money is disbursed among the flood victims.Out of the Rs 80,000 crore that have been earmarked for the rehabilitation of flood victims of September 2014 devastating floods that swept away the life of the people in the state, particularly Srinagar city and other parts of the state.
First on the priority list are the flood victims who lost their homes or whose houses were partially damaged.Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a Rs 80,000-crore development package for all the three regions of the state at a mega rally in Srinagar on November 7.
The package covers primarily the flood victims, infrastructure development and connectivity. “It’s a beginning and more will follow,” the Prime Minister had said.The sources said that each and every aspect of the package had been discussed and the plan for the release of the money has been worked out to the minutest detail.The Centre would monitor the utilisation of money given to the state under the package. The Prime Minister’s Office has been assigned this task, the sources said.
