Police arrest Pakistan High Commission staffer with defence documents; Abdul Basit summoned

Delhi police on Thursday arrested a staff member of Pakistan High Commission for alleged possession of highly classified defence related documents.

According to reports, police have arrested Mehmood Akhtar on a tip by the Intelligence Bureau.

Akhtar has been detained at the crime branch office in Chanakyapuri, and was reportedly under the surveillance for over a month.

The Ministry of External Affairs has summoned Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit.

The arrest comes amid ongoing tensions between the two countries over recent Uri attack and ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
