Police resort to lathicharge during temple festival

Police resorted to lathi-charge to quell large number of Hanuma maladhari who gathered near Mallikarjun
Swami temple for the ‘Hanuma shobhayatra’ from temple to Hanumadri hills in spite of curfew and prohabitary order in the town at Gangavati in Koppal district here today . According to the Koppal Superintendent of Police, Dr Tyagarajan, the situation was tense but under control. He said dusk-to-down curfew has been imposed in the town and no procession or Shobhayatra has allowed in the town .
Police said the trouble began on when the ‘Maladharis’ did not obey the prohibitory orders and started arguing with police and pelted stone on police vehicle. At least five people were injured including a police persons, they were immediately shifted to nearby government hospital.
The gathered people refused to abide by the police orders to disperse and started attacking police pesonnel and hurled stones on them and also the vehicles
Tyagarajan and other senior police officer were camping in the town since yesterday morning. S Murugan, Inspector General of Police (Ballari range) said more policemen have been deployed at sensitive area in the town. Ganagvati witnessed tense yesterday following a clash between two communities over errecting religious banner and flags for Id-Miland and Hanuman jayanti , police had to resorted to lathi-charge to quell
clashing mob .
