The sleuths of Doda Police have claimed to foiled a major smuggling bid and seized 175 cubic feet (CFT) of timber extracted from green Cedar trees in Gandoh Range of Bhadarwah Forest Division in Doda district. Police sources said that they have been receiving complaints of illegal green felling and smuggling of timber from Bhudli Chample area of Bhatyas forest block for sometime. ” Acting on a specific input, our police party under the supervision of ASP Bhadarwah Sargun Shukla and SDPO Gandoh Bhushan Kumar Ganjoo , raided Jhakyas Forest area and seized 175 CFT of green timber consisting of 42 scants from Budhli Chample area,” said SHO Gandoh Tariq Hussain Naik. “During the raid, the timber smugglers escaped from the spot and a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits for felling of trees and smuggling them from the area,” Officer added. A case FIR no 42/2016 under section 379 of 6 Forest Act has been registered in this connection at police station Gandoh.
“The seized timber has been extracted from the revenue land and not from the forest land. However our staff is there on the spot to verify the things,” said DFO Bhadarwah T.P.Singh
” To extract timber from revenue land one needs the permission of District Collector, as of now I am not aware whether they have taken the required approval,” DFO added.
