Policeman, civilian injured in militant attack in Shopian

Srinagar, April 16

A policeman and a civilian were injured on Monday when unidentified militants fired at them in south Kashmir district of Shopian.

Official sources said that militants fired at Special Police Officer, identified as Bilal Ahmad, who was riding a motorcycle at Gole Chowk in Shopian at around 1635 hrs on Monday.

They said Ahmad and another civilian were injured in the firing. “Both the injured were rushed to a hospital,” they said, adding the militants managed to escape during the chaos.

Security forces have been rushed and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers, they added.
