Policeman martyred, two injured in Kulgam militant attack

A policeman was martyred and two others injured on Saturday after militants attacked their vehicles in Damhal Hanjipora area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir.

Sources said that militants opened fire on two police vehicles at Nandimarg crossing in Damhal Hanjipora in Noorabad area.

Both the vehicles skidded off the road, they said, adding that a policeman, identified as Constable Khurshid Ahmad of Pahlu Kulgam, was killed and two others injured.

The policemen travelling in these vehicles were part of a Road opening party, said an official. “They were returning from Daniv Kandimarg village where MLA Noorabad Majid Paddar inaugurated a medical camp,” he said.

He said the MLA was present at Degree College Damhal Hanjipora when the attack took place.
