Prof Manoj Dhar elected as Fellow of NAAS

The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) has elected Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, Director, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu, Jammu as Fellow. The fellowship was conferred in the 23rd Annual General Meeting and Foundation day of NAAS held on June 5th, 2016 at New Delhi. Dr S. Ayyapan, President NAAS former Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) inducted the newly elected fellows to the Academy.
The foundation day lecture was delivered by Dr V K Saraswat, Member (Science) NITI Ayog, Government of India in presence of Dr T. Mohapatra, Director General, Indian Council of Scientific Research (ICAR) and eminent Agricultural Scientists of the Country and Fellows of NAAS. Prof. Dhar is the first Scientist of the State serving in a non-agricultural University in J&K to have been chosen for this prestigious honour. NAAS established in 1990 is the youngest of the Science Academies of India. The Academy focuses on the broad field of Agricultural Sciences including Crop husbandry, animal husbandry, fisheries, agro-forestry and interface between agriculture and agro-industry. The Academy provides a platform to the Agricultural Scientists to generate policy inputs regarding Agricultural Research, education and extension. Professor Dhar has been bestowed with this honour in recognition of his outstanding work in the field of Plant Biotechnology. His work on Apple, Saffron, Tomato and Isabgol, is highly relevant for the socio-economic development of the State particularly thousands of farmers earning their livelihood in the trade of these crops. Besides he has also made notable contributions in Human Genomics particularly Cancer and diabetes.
