A massive protest broke out against NHPC in Kishtwar after residents of Semana area took to streets last night against disconnection of their electricity connections. People of Semana area of Kishtwar last night hold protest and demonstration outside the NHPC Office Kishtwar against the disconnection of their electricity connections by the authorities. They shouted slogans against the NHPC authorities for their alleged step to harass the local residents and demanded early restoration of their connections.
The issue was resolved on the timely intervention of the Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak who immediately rushed to spot despite hostile conditions. The protest broke out after NHPC authorities disconnected electricity power supply of the local residents alleging that the connection were illegal and unregistered. MLC Firdous Tak after listening about the issue rushed to the spot. He was accompanied by Distt General Secretary Ishtiyaq Hussain Waza, Youth President Wasil Doolwal, Rajesh Kumar, Arjun Rana and others. He held an interaction with the residents and assured redressal of their problem. The situation started turning hostile when the residents tried to enter into the NHPC office complex. The legislator immediately convened a meeting with DC GN Balwan, GM NHPC and SP Kishtwar Sandeep Wazir. The issue was resolved after NHPC agreed to restore the power connection. It was also agreed that a resident Welfare Committee will be constituted which will be in touch with the NHPC and Distt administration for redressal of all issues. People called off their protest after getting assurances. Addressing the gathering Tak said that NHPC is duty bound to provide electricity and water supply to the residents of adjoining areas. “A plan will soon be formulated under which NHPC will create required assets in and around the township out of corporate social responsibility,” Tak added. He thanked Deputy Commissioner, SSP and GM NHPC for their timely intervention to redeess the grivance of protesters. He assured the protesters that he will again join them in case NHPC failed to restore the power connections.
