Protests: A routine or exception

The frequent protest/dharna being organised by several organisations at Jammu to grab attention of the government towards their problems has become a routine rather than an exception.
It has been observed that several organizations like VRS employees of SRTC, daily wagers of PDD and PHE, POJK refugees, West Pakistan refugee and Kashmiri Pandit frequently assemble at Press Club Jammu and stage protest against the government for their demands.
Not satisfied with the government, VRS employees of SRTC have announced to go on strike on August 22 in support of
their demands. They have been protesting for last six years for not releasing their retirement dues.
Accordingly Power Development Department (PDD) casual labourers, need based workers union has also announced to go on Kam Chodo hartal from August 22, demanding regularisation.
In another case, PHE daily wager has also started protest/demonstration for not releasing of their salary and delay in starting of biometric process of attendance roll.
By the time this column publishes, all these organizations would have been sitting on protest/dharna against the government.
Now the strike of Oil Tanker Union caused immense hardship when petrol pumps almost dried up in Jammu city.
There is no doubt that peaceful protest and rally is the constitutional and democratic rights but when authorities concerned continue to ignore the aggrieved party then this peaceful protest turn violent and prove dangerous to both people and government.
The protesters some times put forth the demands which are beyond the control of the government and cannot be accepted in larger interest of the public but as far as genuine demands are concerned, the persons at the helm of affairs should not waste time and accept without giving any further chance.
According to leaders of VRS employees of SRTC, they were given volunteer retirement with the assurance that their dues would be cleared within six months. These employees have been frequently sitting on dharna at Press Club Jammu for last six years, alleging not clearance of their dues after a long time.
Surprisingly no successive and present government has given patient hearing to their problems and they are forced to sit on dharna frequently at Press Club Jammu. The employees after retirement has his legitimate right to be paid his dues within stipulated time frame and any delay on the part of the government is like cheating to the employees and they lose faith in the system of the government.
As far as regularization of daily wagers of Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering department, the government has framed a policy for their regularization after completion of certain period of their service.
They are forced to come on roads when the government do not regularize them after expiry of the framed period. The strike of daily wagers of PDD and PHE cause immense hardship to public when they go on Kam Chodo strike on indefinite period.
The government should evolve such a mechanism in its system that all employees should get their dues in time and give no chance to come on roads.
Negotiation on the part of government after prolong period of strike serve no purpose as delay cause loss of public money while public face immense hardships.
