Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in a joint statement in Chandigarh on Saturday have termed the Pathankot terror attack an attempt of Pakistan to create trouble in Punjab.
Badal said that, the People of Punjab and our security forces “are fully equipped to give a befitting reply to any attempt from across the border to undermine our national unity and integrity”.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, who also holds the Home Charge in the Punjab government, has said that the terror strike was “a direct attack by Pakistan on the sacred soil of our country and our response will be forceful and unremitting. Our brave and highly committed, motivated and competent police and security forces will teach a lesson to anyone eyeing our soil with evil intentions.”
The Home minister said that the government had received inputs that concerted attempts are being made from across the border to target peace in Punjab as part of their strategy to weaken the country.
The Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister have been monitoring the situation closely and are being regularly briefed by the security and intelligence agencies. In his statement, the Chief Minister said that, “some forces from across the border have been constantly engaged in destabilising the border state with a view to weakening the country”. He said that people and the government of the state were fully geared to deal with any challenge thrown at the state and the country.
The Deputy CM in his statement said that, the state and the central security forces would deliver a strong message to the aggressors from Pakistan that, “you cannot mess with India and get away with it”. The Deputy CM further said that, the Punjab police and the central security forces “are dealing with the situation most effectively and are fully on top of the aggressors”. He said that the state police had constantly shared inputs with the central agencies and this has ensured that the damage that any such attack could cause is minimised.
“Our army, other security forces and the Punjab Police will teach the infiltrators the lesson of their lifetime,” said Sukhbir. The Home Minister said, “Our men in uniform in armed and security forces and the Punjab Police are always in a state of full preparedness to deal with any threat to our country from any quarter. They have always kept our national flag flying high and the country remains proud of and indebted to them. However, the people and the government of Punjab have always maintained vigilance and a state of high alert. No one who dares to set his unholy foot on our land will be allowed to go unpunished. Our people, our armed forces and police and para-military know what to do with enemies of the country,” said Sukhbir Singh Badal.
