The Northern Railway Polyclinic Health Centre will rotate between Udhampur and Katra, thus providing services for few days in a week at Udhampur and for other days at Katra. This was disclosed here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh while speaking to a delegation of Northern Railway (Uttari Rail) Mazdoor Union unit of Udhampur led by its President Rajesh Kumar Sharma who sought the Minister’s intervention saying that the Railway Health Clinic, which had been for several years functioning in Udhampur, was shifted to Katra from March this year.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that he was already aware of the issue and had received a number of representations from local people as well as from MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta. He said, he had personally taken up the matter with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, as a follow up to which, the Director General (Health) in Ministry of Railways had been accordingly given appropriate instructions and most likely, the orders will be issued next week to make a rotational arrangement for the Health Clinic to function by turn at both Udhampur and Katra. The Railway related works in Udhampur region, Dr Jitendra Singh said, had started moving forward on a fast-track for the last few months and while new trains had been introduced on the route to Udhampur and Katra, a proposal has already been moved for introducing more DMUs between Udhampur and Jammu for the convenience of the daily passengers as well as those boarding from Udhampur. He said, he had also proposed the setting up of an exclusive Railway coach factory but the Ministry of Railways had expressed inability to set up the same for the time being and instead a proposal has been made to set up a coach repair factory in near future.
