Sunderbani, May 1
Ravinder Sharma, Ex-Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Chief Spokesperson Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) visited Sunderbani area today and interacted with the people and party workers to take stock of the problems of people. While addressing the gathering, MLC Ravinder Sharma said that a large number of families of Sunderbani and part of Nowshera Tehsil are cocoon growers. They have suffered a huge loss, due to premature death of silkworm. The cocoon was not formed and the cocoon growers blamed the government for supplying defective seed and the reason for destruction of cocoon. He demanded thorough enquiry in the matter and full compensation to the cocoon growers. Sharma further expressed serious concern over the lukewarm response towards farmers of Nowshera Sunderbani whose crops were totally destroyed due to unprecedented rains and hail stone storm, last year. He further said that the farmers of Tehsil Beripattan, Sunderbani, Siot and adjoining areas have suffered extensive damage due to heavy rains and unprecedented hailstones and on couple of other occasions, in various parts of these areas. As a result of this there is total loss of standing crops of all kinds including wheat, vegetables, and fruits as well. In this connection, he himself had led a delegation and met the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and apprised him of the huge loss to the standing crops and other property due to the heavy rains and hailstones. But it was unfortunate that despite of assurances by the government, the farmers have not been provided compensation for the loss they suffered. He demanded that government should clear all the old cases of compensation without any further delay.
