Retired Army captain shoots wife in J&K’s Bandipora, woman dies

A woman, who was critically injured on Thursday after she was allegedly shot at by her husband in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora, succumbed to her injuries at Srinagar hospital.

A retired Army captain, Ghulam Hassan Khan, allegedly shot his wife, Fatima Begum (52), after an argument ensued between the two. The reason for the argument is yet unknown. The incident happened in Shok Baba village of Bandipora on Thursday.

Following the incident, Fatima suffered critical head injuries and was shifted to a district hospital in Bandipora.

After initial treatment, she was referred to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment as her condition worsened.

After two days, the woman succumbed to her injuries at SMHS hospital, Srinagar.

The body was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites after postmortem was conducted at a district hospital in Bandipora.

Her husband, Ghulam Hassan Khan, was arrested by Bandipora police. His weapon was also confiscated, police said.

“A case under relevant sections of laws has been registered and further investigation has been taken up,” police said.
