Srinagar, December 15,
Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) has issued a show cause notice against the five milk plant holders of Kashmir for their un-authorized increase in the sale rates of pouch milk from past fortnight.
The show cause notice has been served to the Chief Executive Officer, J&K Milk Producers Cooperative Ltd, Cheshmashahi Srinagar, M/s Khyber Agro Farms Pvt Ltd, Hazuri Bagh Srinagar, M/s Zum Zum Milk Products, Sarai Balla Srinagar, M/s Safa Sheen Milk Suppliers Srinagar and M/s Formica Foods, Kursoo Rajbagh Srinagar.
The show cause notice served to these plant holders according to CNS reads that: “it has come to the notice of this department that the rate of pouch milk has been enhanced by Rs 2 over and above the prevailing rate of Rs 34 by plant holders of their own without waiting for the revised notification”
The Department has advised the plant holders to revert back to the notified rates and make the consumers aware about the same. The Department has sought explanations from the plant holders as to why and how the rate of pouch milk has been increased without seeking prior approval of the Competent Authority and thus violated the law of the land.
The Department while seeking the clarification and compliance report from the plant holders within seven days has stated that in case of any default, the action as warranted under rules shall be initiated against them.
Pertinently, a petition in this regard has also been filed before the State Human Rights Commission. The petitioner has alleged that CAPD Department has failed to curb the illegitimate act of the milk plant holders.
