Rs 23.84 cr spent on Water Supply Schemes in Banihal: Andrabi

Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Syed Farooq Andrabi today informed the House that Rs. 23.84 crore have been incurred on execution of Water Supply Schemes in Banihal constituency under Centre and State schemes during the last two fiscals. Replying to a question by Mr. Vikar Rasool Wani, the Minister said that 16 Mark-II hand pumps have been installed during last two years in Banihal constituency. He said Mark-II hand pumps were drilled on partially covered/not covered status and on the recommendations of the public representatives and subject to availability of funds.
He said that with regards to persons engaged against land donation, the cases were taken up with the General Administration Department as well as with the Finance Department. He said that the GAD returned the proposal with the advice to consult the Finance Department.
He said accordingly, the matter was taken up with the Finance Department which advised that the Department policy of engagement of more casual labourers on one alibi or the other, needs to be discouraged. He said that the Department is advised to explore the option of payment of due compensation, in all such cases including ‘Jabrana’ on account of compulsive land execution which is a routine matter in all other Departments.
The Minister said that the DPR for flood protection works in Banihal area under ‘Save Banihal’ amounting to Rs. 10.57 crore has been formulated, which includes channelization of river in Banihal area to prevent flood in future. He said that the DPR was placed before 9th Technical Advisory Committee meeting for approval, but the DPR was not cleared due to some observations, which are being cleared accordingly.
