Rupees 283.38 crore spent on MPs travel in 2 years

New Delhi: An RTI has revealed that a whopping Rs 283.38 crore was spent for travel expenses of Members of Parliament in two years.

According to a media report, the government spent Rs 147.38 crore for domestic travel expenses during 2013-2014 and Rs 135.8 crore during 2014-2015. This collectively makes the sum spent to be Rs 283.83 crore.

This money includes air fare and railway tickets and also daily allowances.

This expenditure is excluding of the salary MPs get.

According to reports, MPs may soon get a composite salary along with allowances which would be roughly twice they are getting now.
After the bill is passed, MPs will start getting Rs 2.8 lakh per month.

The monthly salary of an MP will be increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, constituency allowance from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000 and secretarial assistance plus office allowance from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000.

The salaries will see a yearly rise of Rs 2,000 for serving MPs. Earlier, the allowance was Rs 1,500.

Proposal is also to fix the salaries of MP at Rs 1,000 more than secretaries. Ministers will get a salary Rs 10000 more than the Cabinet secretary.
