SAARC countries Chess C’ship begins, Pakistan skip

SAARC countries Chess Championship organized by Jammu Kashmir Chess Association and Jammu Kashmir State Sports Council to begin today.
All SAARC countries except Pakistan are participating in this championship.
In this South Asian Amateur Championship, Pakistan did not lag behind to play politics on Kashmir issue through games and did not allow her players to participate in this mega event.
Earlier this championship was scheduled to be held at Kashmir but owing to unrest in Valley, its venue changed to Jammu. But still the players of Maldiv and Afghanistan have not reached here.
A total of 430 players of SAARC countries are going to participate in this tournament. The players of Bangladesh and Nepal are also participating in besides players of 28 states.
It is expected that this championship would be interested as players from the country and abroad would showcase their talent.
Speaking on the occasion, Atul Gupta, president All J&K Chess Association, said that the players from the country and abroad would showcase their skill in this mega event and there is great excitement among them.
