Sasikala Pushpa’s husband held, released

A day after they were allegedly assaulted by members of the ruling AIADMK, Lingeswara Thilagan, husband of expelled AIADMK Rajya Sabha member Ms Sasikala Pushpa, and her lawyers were granted station bail today, even as the rebel MP demanded action against those involved in the attack. They were detained by the Mylapore police last night and granted ‘station bail’ this morning, sources said. Police said Lingeswara Thilagan was questioned on a complaint by the AIADMK, which accused him of acting against the party and creating ruckus at the party headquarers.Last evening, Lingeswara and his lawyers were attacked outside the party office when they to file Sasikala Pushpa’s nomination papers for the post of general secretary of the party.
A fight broke out between the AIADMK cadres and Pushpa’s representatives in the premises, following which police intervened and restored order. Pushpa’s husband was attacked by the angry AIADMK workers, who were fumed over the often critical remarks of the rebel MP, and was seen bleeding from his nose. He was ‘rescued’ and taken in a police vehicle and later admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where he was questioned by the police following a complaint by the AIADMK.
Meanwhile, Ms Saikala Pushpa lodged a complaint with the State Home Secretary, Tamil Nadu DGP and the Chennai City Police Commissioner demanding legal action against those involved in the attack on her
In the complaint, she confirmed that it was her husband who was attacked and was taken by the police with bleeding nose and demanded action against the culprits.
