Negligence on the part of school administration in checking the standard of vehicles being employed for ferrying school students has cost life of a minor, while injuries to many other students, raising questions over the much talked policies of the state government.
11-year-old girl today died while 13 other students received injuries when the school bus they were traveling in reportedly turned turtle in Bana Chak area of Bishnah.
The accident took place at about 6:45 am when an old cum unregistered school bus bearing registration number JK02D-1545 carrying more than 30 students was on its way to R K S Girls School Bishnah but on reaching near Bana Chak the driver lost control as a result the bus skidded off the road and turned turtle with a big bang resulting into the on spot death of one Khusboo Devi (11) daughter of Ashok Kumar resident of village Bill Chakera of Kheri, Bishnah while serious injuries to 13 others.
The injured were rushed to the Sub District Hospital Bishnah by the police where doctors declared Khusboo Devi (11) as brought dead.
Considering the seriousness of wounds four injured students were first referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu which were identified as Niharika (5) daughter of Hardev resident of Smailpur Bishnah, Meena Sharma (14) daughter of Roop Chand resident of Fatwal Bishnah, Nitika (12) daughter of Papu Kumar resident of Bishnah and Surekha (18) daughter of Sarwan Dass resident
of Bishnah for the
Later two more injured identified as Rashika (14) daughter of Rajesh resident of Bishnah and Urvashi (10) daughter of Rajesh resident of Bishnah were also shifted to GMC&H Jammu.
Meanwhile the parents
of the school after getting informed regarding the accident of the school bus had started reaching the SDH Bishnah to see their wards and some of them also reached the school but nobody was there to inform or answer them.
Taking advantage of the panic and screams after the accident the driver of the bus namely Papu whose proper identity was not revealed till the filling of this report managed to fled from the spot and was at large against whom a case under FIR number 103/2016 under section 279,337 has been registered by police at police station Bishnah.
Police has also launched manhunt to nab the driver whose reckless driving prima facie seems to be the cause of mishap according to police.
Three more injured namely as Muskan Gupta (14) daughter of Gogi Gupta, Madhu Sharma (16) daughter of Nand Lal both resident of Bishnah and Isha Choudhary (12) daughter of Bahadur Lal resident of Shahpur Bishnah were also referred to GMC&H Jammu raising the total figure to 9.
The owner of the school namely Manav Khajuria according to the police is also at large though no legal action has been taken so far against him or the school.
The Chief Medical Officer Jammu, R Khajuria showing his dedication and efficiency sent three ambulances in advance to the spot held help in timely shifting of injured to the SDH Bishnah.
